Welcome to the xp metal detectors resource page from Garys detecting, it is here to help. So, unless you have fairly quiet EMI and low to moderate mineralization, the larger X35 coils may not make a lot of difference especially if you already have the 9" round HF coil. The 9" elliptical HF coil is much quieter due to its smaller size and I can run it close to max sensitivity in most places. I have to run it at the highest frequencies (25 to 28 kHz) and turn down sensitivity so much (50 to 80) after finding the quietest frequency that depth is about the same on both coils. I have had trouble with EMI and ground noise on the 11" X35 coil simply because of the bigger footprint. The two threshold based all metal modes work well for prospecting, micro jewelry and should work well at salt beaches, (worked well for me at fresh water beach). ![]() I have pretty bad EMI in my urban/suburban area along with moderate to high mineralization. The XP Orx is a really nice detector for someone needing good depth, light weight, great recovery speed and separation, and excellent audio.
